Step 1: Get your documents ready Watch
- PAN: no PAN yet? Get an instant e-PAN with Aadhaar on the Income Tax e-filing portal.
- GST number: Amazon says a valid GST number is mandatory, except for GST-exempt products, which you can sell with PAN only. Register on the official GST portal.
- Bank account: an active account in your name or your business's name. Your sales money is paid into it.
- Food items: things like homemade pickles also need an FSSAI licence or registration from FSSAI FoSCoS.
- Optional: a free Udyam (MSME) registration for your small business.
Step 2: Register as a seller Watch
Open sell.amazon.in and tap Start Selling. This takes you to Seller Central, where you add your business details, GST, bank account and pickup address. Amazon's own seller registration guide shows every screen. Later, you log in at sellercentral.amazon.in.
Step 3: List your product Watch
A listing is your shop window: a title, five bullet points, a description, photos and a price. Our example: a handmade jute tote bag from West Bengal.
Weak title: "Bag". Nobody searches for that, and nobody clicks it.
Strong title: "Handmade Jute Tote Bag for Women, Eco-Friendly, with Zip and Inner Pocket, 40 x 35 cm, Natural Beige".
How AI writes your listing Watch
Give an AI chatbot like ChatGPT or Gemini the real facts, and ask for the listing:
You are an Amazon India listing expert. Product: handmade jute tote bag, 40 x 35 cm,
zip, inner pocket, made in West Bengal, Rs 499. Write a title, 5 bullet points
and a short description. Use only these facts. Add 10 search keywords.
- Keywords: AI suggests the words buyers really type, such as "jute bag for office" or "eco friendly tote".
- Photos: the main photo needs a plain white background. AI photo tools can remove a messy background, but never change how the product really looks.
- Translate: ask AI to write a Hindi version for buyers who prefer it.
- Amazon's own AI: Seller Central has started adding AI tools that draft a listing from a few words or a photo. Always review what they write.
- Your own brand: with a pending or registered trademark (file it at IP India), you can join the free Amazon Brand Registry to protect your listings.
Step 4: Ship your orders Watch
Compare all three options on Amazon's shipping and fulfilment page.
- Easy Ship: you pack, Amazon picks up and delivers. See the official Easy Ship page.
- Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA): Amazon stores, packs and delivers for you. See the official FBA page.
- Self Ship: you deliver with your own courier.
Step 5: Price it and get paid Watch
Amazon charges a referral fee (it starts at 0% and depends on the category and price) plus closing and shipping fees. Read the official fees and pricing page, and try the revenue calculator before you set your price, so you still make a profit. Your sales money is paid into your bank account; Seller Central shows each payment.
Lesson learned Watch
AI writes a great first draft of your listing in minutes. You add the truth: real facts, real photos, fair price.
